When urban SUP is on  the docket, there’s no better place to begin than Winter Park Lakes in Orlando, Florida. This unique location offers easy access to amazing paddle boarding within the Orlando city limits.

These calm lakes make ideal spaces to paddleboard – no matter if you’re a first timer or an expert. Many a local ditches the suit around 5 P.M. to come paddle around and enjoy the sunset at a Winter Park Lake.

If you’re looking to rent a board or take a tour here, your best bet is Paddleboard Orlando. The outfitter has hosted over 20,000 students and does an amazing job with all things SUP in Orlando.

• Wekiva Springs

Located around a half hour from downtown Orlando, you’ll find Wekiva Springs. The unique locale is a state park and impeccably manicured. Here you’ll find fun swimming holes and calm waters for paddling around. The park turns into a smooth river that has become popular with paddle enthusiasts as of late.

If you’re looking to paddle in Wekiva Springs and need a board, we recommend renting from Wekiva Island. They are the official outfitter of the park and do a solid job.

• Lake Isleworth

If you’re looking for calm channels and mangroves to paddle around in, then Lake Isleworth may be the best spot near Orlando. The lake is part of the Butler Chain of Lakes and can be found about 20 minutes from downtown Orlando.

There are no motorized vehicles allowed on this lake, so the water tends to stay smooth. The locale is allow free to enter. Just be forewarned – this place is filled with wildlife. If you’re worried about falling in, then I wouldn’t come here.

You’ll want to bring your own board here, as rentals aren’t as easy to come by at Lake Isleworth as they are at other places.

• DeLeon Springs

If you’re looking for a fun-filled paddle spot that’s not too hot, then DeLeon Springs is ideal. Located about 45-minutes from Orlando, the national wildlife refuge stays around 70 degrees all year long.

The water at DeLeon Springs is always calm and the wildlife is abundant. You’re sure to see a plethora of animals while taking your board here. Not only that – there won’t be too many other humans, either.

You can rent a paddleboard here from the state park, but there don’t seem to be any tour opportunities.
